Walk through native bush beside the clear waters of Riuwaka Resurgence, take in the views from Hawkes Lookout on Tākaka Hill, then explore the formations and natural history of Ngarua Caves.
HOW THE DAY UNFOLDS

From Nelson to the forest.
We collect you from your Nelson address and head out for a gentle introduction to the region.

Riuwaka Resurgence.
Follow the forest track to the clear spring. Take in the water, native bush and the significance of this special place.
- 03
A pause above the valley.
Continue up Tākaka Hill and walk to Hawkes Lookout for views across the valley and surrounding landscape.

Below the surface.
Explore around 300 metres of limestone passages with a Ngarua Caves guide. The cave walk takes approximately 45 minutes, with stalactites, stalagmites and a display of extinct moa bones along the way.

Back with a different perspective.
Return to Nelson after roughly five hours. Stop timings may vary with conditions and your group’s pace.
